Wouldn’t it be cool if you got a personalized review about how a piece of clothing looked on you “in real life”, before you made the purchase?   This insight prompted three Austin natives and University of Texas grads Brooke Moreland, Joe Weisenthal and Chris France, to start Fashism, a community-driven social networking site for crowdsourcing your style. Snap a photo on a cell, send it in, and get votes and comments from the site’s vocal community of fashionistas sent back to you in real time.  Instead of sending a dressing-room photo to a couple of friends (who may not even be around) for confirmation, why not ask a crowd of unbiased strangers?,” says Moreland. “And with the ubiquity of iPhones, and other camera phones, there is no reason why you can’t.” Fashism is the friendlier peer driven online version of “What not to wear” Fashism fans can have virtual softer “Stacy’s” and kinder “Clinton’s” right at their finger tips. Some of the outfits posted are serious and perhaps before a hot date or a casual day downtown http://www.fashism.com/look/view/357. Others are just plain silly http://www.fashism.com/look/view/824

It is quite fitting that fashion networking site Fashism, and Buy Definition ( 3100 S. Congress), a much loved e-boutique based in Austin would join to create a unique opportunity for social media savvy fashionistas on Saturday November 14 from noon to 4 pm. At this Fashion for the People, By the People event, guests are invited to try on clothes, get photographed, upload the photo to Fashism’s interactive site and receive real time feedback by a community of Fashism followers. Guests can also enter to win a $50 gift certificate that will be awarded to the person that pulls together the topped ranked “best look” – proving that it definitely pays to look good.  Free wine from Apothecary, Austin’s newest wine bar, will be provided, making this event the perfect definition of a Saturday afternoon well spent.
